are the most important part of
& Open Source Collaboration
The project is based on principles of radical inclusivity and equality at the planetary level. It is motivated by the belief that bottom-up civil action and collective intelligence is the most powerful innovation to address the climate challenge.
Whilst the platform is currently incubated at the Yale Open Innovation Lab (openlab) it combines multiple other platforms in advanced technological; stages incubated and developed by a growing network of collaborators. For the combined development, the open climate project adopts a multi-stakeholder open innovation framework and consortium to actualize this ambitious endeavor through radical collaboration. The project will be initially governed by a consortium agreement for shared decision making and common funds management throughout the development phases. Upon platform maturity, it will be released thereafter as a decentralized autonomous organization and system.
WE ARE ALL STAKEHOLDERS
Small and large organizations too often work independently when tackling complex, global problems, disconnected from potential collaborators with complementary skills and ideas. The current business and entrepreneurial mindset, characterized by competition and driven by the maximization of self-interest, is a major contributor to this pattern.
Global challenges are becoming more urgent; the earth's ecosystem is on-track to cross thresholds from a stable state to precarious levels of global warming, extinction, and sea level rise.
Our current inertia of greenhouse gas emissions could deplete our remaining carbon budget in less than 20 years. These challenges require more than incremental new advances. They require paradigm shifts driven by our creative, collective intelligence.
The promise of collective intelligence is powered by the decentralized, distributed networks of the Internet, open source software and hardware, and governance models that enable collaboration across disciplines, continents, and languages.
About the Yale Openlab
The Yale Open Innovation Lab (openlab), is an innovative partnership between the Center for Business and the Environment at Yale (CBEY) and the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale (CITY) that seeks to explore the prospect of emerging technologies and radical collaboration to address global challenges.
Our mission is to provide a decentralized space to research and produce open source projects that represent innovative approaches to complex global problems such as climate change. We constantly challenge our processes on how to scale collaboration and use collective intelligence to pursue bold, paradigm-shifting projects.
